How streaming has brought people with common interests together Safely
(By: Mohamed Hassan)
Have you ever gone out with friends to catch a game at a restaurant? What about going to a friend's house to be the first to experience the new level of your favorite video game? Since Covid-19 has caused everybody to quarantine and stay safe, friends can no longer do this. But through streaming, we can reconnect in a safe way.
After watching a Ted Talk by Emmett Shear called, What streaming means for the future of entertainment, I had a few thoughts about streaming. One being how cool streaming is because of what it allows the users to do while being safe. I also thought of how streaming is a newer concept compared to pre-recorded videos, and not everybody knows the difference and the benefits that come from streaming. People should know about Streams because in our time of separation it's a little closer to normal.
What is Streaming?:
What is streaming? Streaming is a live recording of a variety of content for people to watch. A popular site used for streaming is Twitch. In the Ted Talk I watched by Emmet Shear he describes Twitch as ¨a place of 1000 bonfires where you can meet and connect with people who are playing games.¨describing all the different people and things you can watch.

Streaming has introduced more to the viewer's experience compared to sites like youtube. Twitch, because it's a live recording site has many cool and different functions. On Twitch you can donate to the person you are watching, you can even write a message to pop up on the screen when you donate. Allowing the viewers to talk and engage with the creator. There is also a comment section, where everybody watching can see and respond to, allowing you to connect with people with the same interests while watching a creator.
Safety:
Streaming sites like Twitch are online forms of entertainment that allow random people to communicate with you. This can seem alarming at first, but Twitch has terms of service and ways to make sure the people on Twitch are safe. For example, in the terms of service for Twitch, it says ¨The Twitch Services are not available to persons under the age of 13. If you are between the ages of 13 and the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction of residence, you may only use the Twitch Services under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms of Service.¨ This allows the safety of kids and teens because they need parent's supervision. Creators can also set specific people as moderators, moderators can ban or kick people from the stream if they are harassing people in the chat. On Twitch you can stay safe and harassed free all while being Corona Virus-free.
Conclusion:
Streaming is a way to watch what you are interested in while being able to talk to people who are watching and have the same interests as you. Through streaming sites like Twitch, for teens with supervision and adults to use too. Allowing us to reconnect Covid safe, and keeping teens safe while using sites like Twitch to enjoy this experience.

I like how you started it off by asking questions. It really seams to hook the reader and get them interested in what your righting about. I like how you explain what streaming is so that people can have a general idea of what its all about if they did not know. This helps them to understand what you are talking about. I would suggest indenting your fourth paragraph to match the rest. One question I had would be how does one go about getting into streaming?
ReplyDeletei did not notice the 4th paragraph, thank you. and it is difrent for everybody. it can be becuae the enjouyed watching others stream, or they just want to spread their love for what they are streaming.
DeleteTrue, I think streaming is going to become more popular, and going to be more accepted as a job as it becomes more main stream. With how easy it is to start streaming it's going to make it much more popular for years to come. I think we'll be able to see more celebrities doing it too.
ReplyDeleteEli, while websites have terms of service, does that mean those terms are always followed? Id be interested in learning about how safe and harassment-free Twitch (and other streaming sites) really are.
